Bourg Saint Maurice, known as Bourg, is a lovely village in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, France. Geneva is 2 hours by car and 4 hours by train.

Bourg Saint Maurice, (part of Les Arcs skiing area - providing 420km of piste skiing and snowboarding), is not sought for its skiable areas, due to its low altitude, but compensates generously with its Arc en Ciel funicular railway, featuring great views of the Alps and a variety of splendid accommodations. Not to mention that Bourg Saint Maurice is open all year! Bourg Saint Maurice white water course is known worldwide, hosting the International Canoeing Federation's World Championships most recently in 2002.

Bourg greeted us with a mountain landscape and traditional architecture of the 20th century with fortifications (take a look at The Town hall and the cinema in Bourg-Saint-Maurice), narrow cobblestone streets, where on one side and the other there are souvenir shops, chocolate boutiques, bakeries and restaurants filled with the famous ’produits du Terroir’ , a wealth of flavors, a paradise for gourmets.

From exploring the mountains nearby, hiking and cycling to kayaking and paragliding or hang gliding in Bourg Saint Maurice is a bit for everyone. For a little culinary delight, you could stop at Aux Délices de Tarentaise, where you can enjoy les chocolats chauds, some hot and creamy chocolates, or you could choose some fresh viennoiseries and a cup of tea. For local specialties, I would mention the raclette traditional dish of the mountain, the fondue and the amazing tartiflette (cooked potatoes and onions with grilled bacon covered with the famous Reblochon cheese). We arrived in Bourg Saint Maurice on a rainy day when the streets were scented with the smell of butter croissants and coffee. Alluring…
