Bourg Saint Maurice, (part of Les Arcs skiing area - providing 420km of piste skiing and snowboarding), is not sought for its skiable areas, due to its low altitude, but compensates generously with its Arc en Ciel funicular railway, featuring great views of the Alps and a variety of splendid accommodations. Not to mention that Bourg Saint Maurice is open all year! Bourg Saint Maurice white water course is known worldwide, hosting the International Canoeing Federation's World Championships most recently in 2002.

We arrived in Bourg Saint Maurice on a rainy day when the streets were scented with the smell of butter croissants and coffee. Alluring…
