I visited Bratislava in the middle of December, in full winter holiday season. It was a really nice experience. The city is a mixture between new and old, friendly people and good food.
In the center of the city was the Christmas market, divided into to two squares. In the first one, the bigger one, was a skating rink and lots of little stands where you could buy traditional snacks, traditional food and drinks, warm wine (which was really tasteful :D ), but also souvenirs, hand-made jewelry and other little things. I liked it because the Christmas market was organized for tourists but they kept the specificity of the place. The streets and the buildings remembered of Vienna, but it´s more quiet and with not so many people.
I ate very well in the places where I was. But I admit, the traditional snacks were yummy.
Supermarkets were open every day, including Sunday, which is a big deal, compared to other cities in the region where there are 2 or 3 shop open.
I would recommend Bratislava for a 2 or 3 day trip for taking walks, making photos, good food and just hanging around with your friends or family. It´s not expensive and you can easily find something to do.
