Barcelona is the second largest city of Spain. One of the most visited in Europe is distinguished by brilliant creations of the great architect Gaudi. The city enjoys a mild climate due to the privileged position on the Mediterranean Sea coast.

As a tourist you can arrive in Barcelona through the three airports: Barcelona-El Prat Airport is the main airport of the city and is located 12 km from the Centre of Barcelona being the second largest of the Spain after Madrid - Aeropuerto de Barajas.

From Barcelona El Prat airport you can reach the city centre by public transport, either by bus or by train. Convenient and fairly inexpensive the aerobus goes from 10 to 10 minutes from the airport to Plaça de Catalunya approximately in 25 minutes, for a cost of about 5.5 Euros per person.

Girona-Barcelona is located 13 km from downtown. You can reach the centre with aerobus in 35 minutes for a cost about 6 Euros.

Barcelona-Reus is located approximately 7 km from the city of Tarragona and 90 km from Barcelona. You can reach Barcelona by shuttle. A single ticket is 15 Euros and return is 30 Euros.

Accommodation in high season is quite expensive so it's good to make reservation in time. Average prices vary between 60 and 120 Euro/night for a large selection of 3 and 4 star hotels.

Places to visit
Sagrada Familia is a huge Church belonging to the genial architect Antonio Gaudi. Was started in 1882 and will be finished in 2026. Sagrada Familia has 18 towers representing the twelve apostles, the 4 evangelists and the highest tower dedicated to Jesus Christ. The last one dedicated to Virgin Mary.

Good to know: In general it is crowded and it's recommended that you buy the ticket in advance either online or from La Caixa Bank's counters.

Picasso Museum contains most of Picasso's creations. Ticket price is around 11 Euros.

Good to know: Free entrance on the first Sunday of each month as well as many other museums.

Barri Gothic is Barcelona's old city, a maze of narrow streets. The most important point of the district is the Cathedral of Barcelona. Barceloneta and her gorgeous beaches that lead you on a dream land. Montjuic Park and the castle of the same name In Montjuic Park are most cultural attractions of Barcelona: Montjuic, Fundacio Joan Puppy Miro, Barcelona's Botanical Garden and national Museum of art of Catalonia. To Montjuic Castle: Metro L2/L3 - Paral•lel Stop + funicular (1.5 euro) and then the cable car. Ticket price for the cable car is 10.30 Euros round trip. Casa Batllo and La Pedrara represents two exponential Gaudi's creations.


Tourist info

There are some tourist information centres in Barcelona. The most important is next to Las Ramblas, Catalunya Square. From there you can buy tickets for FC Barcelona matches.

Barcelona card offers free transport, free entrance to some museums, free admission to 23 different attractions and discounts at many museums, shops and restaurants. The card can be purchased for a period of 2 to 5 days with prices between 35 and 60 Euros. Good to know: you can get additional discounts if you buy online and also you have included a city and metro map. Local currency is Euro Shopping period starts in the first week of July until the end of August and the winter sales begin in the second week of January until the end of February.

Barcelona is a city of numerous shopping areas.
Passeig de Gracia is the longest avenue of Barcelona. Here you can find numerous shops of the most famous fashion houses and also small shops with souvenirs and decorations. Catalonia's market with El Corte Ingles department store Avinguda Diagonal with many shops and malls Rambla de Catalunya Malls- Mare Magnum, Diagonal Mar, llla Diagonal, Las Arenas, Corte Ingles Outside of town: La Roca Village Outlet- from Passeig de Gracia, no 6, take a 50 minutes express coach operated by Sagalés. The price is 12 Euros/person roundtrip. Here you can find all the well-known clothes shops and home products. The prices are quite affordable.
